Oxford is a world renowned University City, with its origins dating back over eight hundred years. The Colleges of the University, with their beautiful architecture dating from mediaeval times in many cases, provide a spectacular and inspiring backdrop for educational , business and cultural programmes for visitors and students from all over the world.
Oxford is also a thriving modern city , home to some of the newest developments in business and research. It is also an important cultural centre, with many art galleries, theatres, films and musical performances. It is very cosmopolitan, welcoming people from all over the world for education, business or cultural visits.
Oxford International Study Centre
Oxford International Study Centre was founded by a group of educators in Oxford, who had themselves studied at Oxford University. The Principal Carolyn Llewelyn has been involved in international education for over twenty years, and has enormous experience of working with schools, universities, companies, and international organisations worldwide.
OISC provides high quality year round and short programmes which offer:
Flexibility: many of the programmes are tailor made to best meet the requirements of the individual student or client company;
Excellent contacts with the University, enabling students and clients to be taught in the Colleges of the University in the vacations. Fully residential courses in the University are offered in summer and , subject to status, arrangements can be made for visiting academics to become members of the University libraries;
High calibre tutors and visiting speakers from academe or business ;
A range of over twenty subject specialisms, enabling, for example, a student to combine academic English with a University preparation programme;
Strong links with a large number of British and European Schools , enabling younger students to prepare for entry to some of the best Boarding Schools;
Good links with Oxford, Cambridge and other leading universities, and provision of individual educational counselling for students who wish to apply to a British University;
Well-established links with Companies in the Oxford and London areas, enabling company clients to combine their Oxford programme with meeting new business contacts.


Programmes

We teach individually and in small groups. The average group size is 6 and the maximum is fifteen (rarely reached, except in English Language classes in summer). Our lessons are 45 minutes long, except for tailor-made programmes.

Programmes for companies and organisations
We have many years of experience of welcoming individuals and groups from international companies and organisations for short tailor-made programmes in Oxford. Oxford is not only a major university city of world renown, but it is also a thriving business centre, in one of the fastest developing parts of Britain.

Programmes for students preparing for British Boarding Schools or Universities
We teach over twenty different subjects, including the Humanities, Languages, Social Sciences, Sciences and Business Subjects.
A student preparing for a British School of University would normally combine tuition in English Language at the appropriate level with three to five academic subjects. The balance of subjects is designed to meet the needs of each student. Normally s/he would receive 20-25 lessons a week, depending on the subject mix.
We assist a small number of students in applying to Oxford or Cambridge Universities. These universities have interviews and entrance tests in November and December. We offer advice on college choice, as well as interview practice and preparation for written tests at interview.
We provide tuition for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination, which is the main examination for international students wanting to enter a British University. Preparation for Cambridge and TOEFL examinations is also available. The IELTS programme may be combined with (I)GCSE or A-Level preparation, if the student also needs to take these examinations.
For younger students we offer preparation for Boarding School entrance tests and interviews (usually verbal or non-verbal reasoning, together with English and Maths) and also pre-GCSE and pre- ALevel programmes.
We have excellent links with a many British Schools and Universities, and we are also able to arrange guardianship for younger students.
Programmes for University Undergraduate and Postgraduates
We are able to arrange specially designed programmes for university groups, and also for individual students. In the summer it is possible for students to reside in a College of Oxford University. The programmes normally include two or three specialisms chosen from a range of modules, in agreement with the client university or individual student. The courses are partly classroom based , but also include cultural visits to relevant sites, such as Stratford, or the Colleges of Oxford writers such as Tolkien and C.S.Lewis.
By agreement with the client university these programmes can be accredited.
English Language Programmes
These programmes take place year round, both for groups and individuals. In the summer older students are taught in the University. All courses train students to communicate clearly both in written and spoken usage.
We welcome all age groups and levels. Students are assessed on the first day, and there are four main courses:
Group tuition (20lessons a week)
Intensive Programme (30 lessons a week)
Combined Programme (20 lessons + 5 or 10 individual lessons)
Private tuition (10,20,or 30 lessons a week)
We advise students on the best programme for their needs before arrival.

Study Abroad Programmes : Summer, Semester or Year in Oxford
We arrange study abroad programmes for individuals and school or college groups. These are generally taken in the summer, but year round programmes are also available.
There is a very wide range of subjects – humanities, languages, sciences, social sciences, business subjects are all offered. Students normally take two subjects and can change their subjects during their stay, subject to agreement.
In the summer the programmes are taught in the beautiful setting of the University of Oxford, and cultural visits and excursions are offered. The facilities of some of Oxford’s libraries are available throughout the programme.
Some students take this programme to enhance their existing studies and possibly gain accreditation from their own school or college. Others see the Oxford programme as an exciting way to widen their cultural and educational experience. And some students love the city so much that they take the programme in order to enter a British University, especially Oxford or Cambridge.

Vacation programmes for school examinations
During the Easter and Summer vacations and also at half term, we arrange a number of programmes for students preparing for school examinations. For those students whose first language is not English, these can be taken alongside an English Language programme.
We offer most school subjects , and students generally take two subjects. We teach for these examinations:

Accommodation

We offer arrange of accommodation to meet each person’s preferences and budget. The options include:
College of the University : summer vacation only;
Oxford family: single room, most meals, with sharing option for friends;
Guest House
Budget Hotel
Superior quality hotel with swimming pool and health spa
All family rooms are inspected by our accommodation manager. If you are a family or school group we can sometimes make special arrangements for you in shared houses. Please write to us with your plans and we will offer advice.

Cultural Programme and Excursions
We arrange a regular programme of cultural activities and excursions in the summer, and at any time of year for groups. These include visits to Oxford’s Colleges, Museums and Galleries, and punting on the river in the summer. We can arrange for groups to have lunch or dinner in the university.
Weekend excursions include London, Warwick, Stratford, Bath and Cambridge, as well as tours to the beautiful Cotswold countryside.

Extra individual tuition is available for any programme at £38 per lesson, with reductions for more than four lessons a week.
We are also able to arrange specially designed programmes , in which the fees are agreed with the individual or group.
Accommodation Fees
These start at £130 per week for single room accommodation in a host family, with most meals. Juniors (under 16) are charged a supplement of £20 per week. Superior accommodation is also available at additional cost.
Guest house and hotel prices vary enormously , as do charges for residing ina College of the University in the summer. Please write to us with your plans if you would like a quotation for these options.
Excursions and Cultural Activities programme (summer vacation)
From £70 per week including transport, guide and admission fees.
Airport transfers
These start at £95 single for Heathrow , with special rates available for groups. Other airports eg Gatwick, Stansted and considerably higher.
Guardianship
Full guardianship is provided for £500 per term plus expenses.
Bank Transfer Fee
We accept payment by sterling cheque at no additional cost. International Bank transfers (in sterling) have a bank handling fee of £14.
