The practical training periods are integral parts of the course, and are monitored and evaluated as such. Students are placed by the IMI placement office in Swiss hotels, restaurants, with travel agents or other suitable catering outlets. Students are paid at current industry trainee rates and accommodation is also provided. Gross monthly salary is approximately CHF 2'060.- to CHF 2'450.-, less deductions for accommodation, food, insurances, taxes which leaves approximately CHF 1'000.- to CHF 1'400.- net per month. The IMI placement office is always available to deal with any queries or problems which may arise.
No fees are paid to the school during the in-training periods.

Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in International Hotel and/or Tourism & Events Management

Who is this programme for?

The BA (Hons) Degree in International Hotel Management is a 6 month specialist programme validated and awarded by the Manchester Metropolitan University and equivalent to the final year of university study. This course allows a measure of specialization in hospitality management. It is designed for those who have prior qualifications to Higher Diploma level and who intend to make their careers in the industry and wish to be best placed to achieve rapid promotion.

Requirements for Admission

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • IMI Higher Diploma in Hotel Management or equivalent
  • Transfers are considered from recognized Hotel/Tourism Management schools or universities
  • Proficiency in English: 525 TOEFL (paper-based), 196 TOEFL (computer-based), 5.5 IELTS, or equivalent
Applicants who do not have the required English level may join the 4-week Intensive English Certificate (IEC), the 12-week University English Preparatory Course (UEPC) or the 6 months Foundation in English Studies Course (FESC).

Programme objective:

The objective of the BA (Hons) Degree in International Hotel Management programme is to equip students for the demands of senior management in the hospitality industry as well as to give them the foundation to continue onto advanced programmes at Master's level. Students receive individualised attention and the curriculum focuses on the strategic business development of hospitality organizations, core subjects including international strategy and marketing, international food and beverage concept development, strategies for evaluating management decisions as well as career planning and development.

MBA in International Hospitality Management

Who is the programme for?

The Masters of Business Administration in International Hospitality Management is 6 month intensive course designed for students with qualifications and/or experience in hospitality management who wish to develop their skills and understanding of the industry in preparation for intermediate and middle management positions.

Requirements for Admission:

  • Degree in Hotel or Tourism Management, or successful completion of the IMI Postgraduate Diploma
  • Exceptionally, Degree in other lines may be accepted, if supported with adequate professional experience
  • IMI regards strong motivation and maturity as important as academic qualifications
  • Proficiency in English: 525 TOEFL (paper-based), 196 TOEFL (computer-based), 5.5 IELTS, or equivalent

Programme objective:

The programme's objective is to equip students with the skills necessary for eventual higher level management in the hospitality industry by focusing on those subjects that relate to the internationalisation of hotel and hospitality companies. The core focus is on strategic business and applied management.
